The org chart
The Org chart tab in Community: who you see depending on your sub-company, who gets the full view, how to move around the tree and what dragging saves.
The org chart shows who reports to whom at your company. The tree is built from the manager HR sets on each person’s record.
CommunityOrg chartBefore you start
The org chart is the second tab in Community, next to Colleagues. Your company decides whether Community shows in your menu: with the employee role Orquiva ships with, it’s hidden. If you don’t see it, ask HR to turn it on for you.
What you see
Not everyone sees the same tree:
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| Administrator, or anyone with the employee management permission | The whole company, with each person's name, position, role and photo. They can open each node's card. |
| Everyone else | The people their sub-company lets them see, with name and position. Nodes don't open. |
If your company doesn’t use sub-companies, you see the whole workforce. If it does, you see anyone who shares at least one sub-company with you; and if you have none, anyone who has none either. It isn’t cut down by department or by chain of command.
When someone’s manager falls outside what you can see, that person shows at the top, as if they had no manager.
Moving around the tree
- Drag on the canvas to move the chart, or use the arrow controls.
- Zoom with your mouse wheel or trackpad, or with Zoom in and Zoom out.
- Click + or − on a node to collapse or expand their team.
- Drag a node to place it wherever suits you.
Node positions and collapsed branches are saved in that browser. They only change your drawing: they don’t touch the real structure or what others see. To go back to the original drawing, click Reset (Reset view).
On a phone or tablet
On a touch screen, dragging with your finger doesn’t move the chart or the nodes, and pinching with two fingers zooms the whole page, not the org chart. Get around with the buttons in the bar above the chart:
- The arrows (Pan up, Pan down, Pan left and Pan right) move the chart a little with each tap.
- Zoom in and Zoom out change the zoom.
- Reset goes back to the original drawing.
A tap does work like a click: on + or − it collapses or expands a team, and on a node it opens that person’s card if you see the whole company. You can’t rearrange nodes from a phone.
A person’s card
Only if you see the whole company. Clicking a node opens a card with Department, Manager, Direct reports, Sub-company and Status (Active or Inactive). View profile and Edit take you to their employee record, where the manager is changed. How records are managed: Departments, positions, sites and sub-companies.
What happens next
When HR changes someone’s manager, the tree is redrawn the next time you open the tab. If you dragged nodes, your layout stays until you click Reset.
If something goes wrong
I don’t see Community in the menu. Your company hasn’t turned it on for your role. Ask HR for access.
Clicking a person does nothing. Node cards only open for the administrator and for anyone with the employee management permission. To find someone by position or worksite, use Colleagues.
On my phone I can’t move the org chart with my finger. The chart only responds to mouse dragging. Use the arrows and Zoom in and Zoom out in the chart’s bar. If you zoomed the page by pinching, pinch back in to restore it.
Everyone shows up loose, with no hierarchy. Nobody has a manager assigned. The tree is built from that field on the record: ask HR.
It says “No structure to display yet”. There’s nobody you can see in the tree. If you manage people, Go to employees takes you where you add them and set their manager.
I rearranged the nodes and someone else doesn’t see my changes. Dragging only changes your drawing, and only in that browser. To change who someone reports to, HR has to change their manager.
Someone who has left the company still shows. The org chart includes everyone with a record, including people whose leaving date has passed. If they should disappear, let HR know.
