Public holidays and non-working days
Where your calendar's holidays come from: national ones, loaded by Orquiva, and regional and local ones, added by your company. And what happens to your vacation.
Public holidays are your company’s non-working days. You don’t have to request them: they’re already marked. Knowing where they come from explains why you see some and not others.
Where they come from
The holiday calendar belongs to the company and is built in two layers:
- National holidays. Orquiva loads them automatically from the official calendar of the country set for your company. Only those that apply to the whole country.
- Company holidays. Regional holidays, your town’s local holidays, a collective-agreement day or a bridge day are added by your company by hand (Add manual holiday). It can also remove a national holiday that doesn’t apply (Exclude public holiday).
| National holiday | Company holiday | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | The country's official calendar | Added by HR by hand |
| Examples | New Year's Day, October 12 | Your region's day, a local festival, an agreement day |
| Applies to | The whole company | The whole company |
Regional and local holidays don't arrive on their own
Orquiva doesn’t load each region’s or town’s holidays. If your region’s or your city’s holiday is missing from your calendar, your company hasn’t added it yet.
For now, holidays apply equally to the whole company: there’s no separate calendar per work site. If you’re the one who sets them up, the screen is Absence types and public holidays.
Where you see them
- On the Calendar tab in Time tracking, as non-working days. Working days only hides them.
- On Home, under Coming up, with how long until the next one.
- In your clock-ins, with a Holiday note next to the date.
What they mean for you
- You don’t need to request time off. Your hours target that day is 0.
- If you work it, you clock in as normal. Orquiva doesn’t stop you: in many sectors people work holidays.
- It doesn’t come out of your vacation. When you request a range that includes holidays, the dialog won’t let you select those days and the balance doesn’t count them.
Check vacation that spans a company holiday
When working out your balance, Orquiva leaves out national holidays. If your vacation includes a holiday your company added, check in the summary how many days were deducted and, if it doesn’t look right, ask HR.
Look at the holidays before you ask
Before requesting a long vacation, open the year view and find the holidays in that period. A well-chosen bridge day changes how many days you use.
If something goes wrong
My region’s or city’s holiday is missing. Orquiva only loads national ones. Ask HR to add it.
I see a holiday that isn’t observed where I am. It’s national and your company hasn’t excluded it. If it doesn’t apply, ask HR to remove it.
A colleague in another city sees the same holidays as me. The calendar belongs to the company, not the work site. If you need different holidays, raise it with HR.
A holiday was counted as a vacation day. Don’t delete and recreate the request. Check the count on the request itself and talk to HR, who can adjust your balance.
